Tutoring

Tutoring is provided by our highly trained and experienced Tutoring Staff. Student Support Services' tutors are not only very knowledgeable in their specific academic areas but also highly proficient in the communication skills necessary for truly valuable assistance. Tutoring is conducted during scheduled, one-on-one, weekly sessions. Tutoring is available Monday through Sunday on the Douglass, Livingston, Busch and College Avenue campuses. Computer Laboratory

SSS maintains a fully equipped, networked computer lab. Currently, there are 15 comptuers, 1 scanner and 2 printers(one is a color printer). The lab is fully operational with the latest software, including Microsoft Word, Microsoft Access, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft PowerPoint, GRE and LSAT software and the latest web browsers for full Internet access. A consultant is ready to assist any user who is a SSS student.

Computer Lab Hours: (during the fall & spring semesters only)

Monday: 8:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
Tuesday: 8:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
Wednesday: 8:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
Thursday: 8:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
Friday: 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

 

Tutor/Student Academic & Career Resource Library

SSS maintains an Academic/Career Resource Library for students and tutors to utilize. In the Resource Library, there are academic textbooks, copies of course syllabi, and career books and binders to enhance academic and career development for our students and tutors.

One-on-One Career & Academic Coaching

SSS provides students with one-on-one career and academic coaching. To meet with an SSS Staff member to receive one or more of these services, please call Mr. Christopher Agans at 732-445-4001 X173.
  • Career Coaching & Assessment: Through a structured process of assessment and discussion, Career Coaching will help you clarify your career direction through deciphering your values, interests, motivators, knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience. Through Career Coaching, you can also receive assistance in preparing a Custom Resume and Cover Letter, developing and initiating a job search plan, and preparing for job interviews. If you are interested in attending graduate or professional school, you can also receive assistance in researching programs and writing an Effective Personal Statement.

  • Academic Coaching & Assessment: Through a structured process of assessment and discussion, Academic Coaching can help you in reaching your academic goals. You can receive Academic Coaching in order to learn your unique Learning Style, develop study strategies that compliment your learning style and the subject matter, develop reading and note-taking skills that help you acquire and retain the most important information, and to develop a plan towards effective time management and organization.

 

Educational Workshops

SSS also presents a number of educational workshops and seminars. Topics cover the following areas: Writing Skills, Math/Science Study Skills, Technology, Grad/Professional School Prep, Career Development, Academic/Study Skills, Time Management, Test Anxiety, Personal Development, Leadership Development, and Money Management. In addition to these academic seminars, SSS offers training workshops to keep students prepared for the latest software releases. SSS also welcomes students' requests for topic specific workshops.

Grant Aid Policy
(2009 Spring Semester)

To be eligible for SSS Grant Aid, all SSS participants must meet the following criteria:

  • SSS participant receiving a Federal Pell Grant
  • Minimum 2.5 cumulative and term GPA
  • Perfect attendance and full participation with an SSS service (tutoring or other) - Attend one workshop per month (Feb, Mar, April for Spring Semester and Sept, Oct, Nov for Fall Semester)
  • 2 Page essay
  • Completed application submitted by deadline

Freshmen and Sophomore SSS participants will receive priority for grant funds and any remaining funds will be distributed to eligible Junior and Senior SSS participants.
