1. WHAT IS SSS?

Student Support Services is a federally funded program, which is designed to increase the retention and graduation rates of first-generation and low-income students, as well as students with a disability. In addition, SSS is charged with increasing the rate at which this population enrolls in graduate school.

2. WHAT DOES SSS DO FOR STUDENTS?

SSS provides undergraduate students with one-on-one tutoring, as well as career and academic coaching in one-on-one and group workshop format.

5. AM I ELIGIBLE FOR SSS?

To qualify for SSS a student must be a U.S. citizen, or a national, or a recipient of federal financial aid. In addition, students must be first-generation, and/or low-income, and/or have a documented disability.

6. HOW DO I APPLY FOR THE PROGRAM?

Interested students may complete an online application at http://www.sss.rutgers.edu/SSSApplication.asp and must submit the first two pages of their parents' 1040 (or if they are an independent student claiming themselves, their own 1040). If there are available participant slots, eligible students will be contacted to alert them of their eligibility.

7. IS THERE ANY GRANT AID AVAILABLE THROUGH SSS?

Yes. Small amounts of grant aid are awarded to program participants during the fall and spring semesters. For eligibility go to: http://www.sss.rutgers.edu/grantAid.asp

9. WHAT DOES "TRIO" MEAN?

TRiO refers to a series of programs, funded under Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965, created to assist disadvantaged Americans in overcoming class, social and cultural barriers to higher education. The term TRiO was coined to represent the initial three programs, Upward Bound, Talent Search, and Student Support Services.
